New Red Hat "Supporting Member" Stuff

Posted by queendancingdori on April 28, 2009 at 9:56 AM

How do you feel about the $20 supporting member thing?  You have to pay dues to belong to other groups like Hospital Auxiliary, The Eagles, Moose Lodge, Twins Club, Ladies Towne Club, etc. etc. so why not the RHS???

I feel if the ladies know up front about the $20. Then it shouldn't be a problem.

I leave it up to my members and most do not join..I believe we should not say you are excluded from events if you do not join why can't it just be a larger fee for non members like other organizations such as the ymca? red hat society says no rules and then they make one: must join to be official red hats..I am a member but do not push it with my members

The Cheeky Red Foxes voted unanimously not to pay this $20 supporting membership. There are many reasons why we chose not to pay this $20,..fixed incomes and the current economy just to name a few. $20 a year wouldn't break any of us, but this is the decision we made as a group. On a personal level, I was very disappointed in the way this was handled. It felt to me that the RHS sprung this on us without much notice. I had just paid our yearly $39 when this came up. It would have been fairer for all chapters if they'd chosen to institute the new fee at the expiration of each chapter's renewal period. I know I wasn't the only Queen to email Hatquarters with concerns about this issue. For my efforts, I received a form letter back, not even a personal response from anyone at Hatquarters. The form letter did nothing to address my concerns; it merely repeated the rhetoric they had already put out. We chose to stay together as an unofficial chapter rather than disband our lively little group. Gayle was fair enough (more so than Hatquarters) to allow us to continue our plans to attend the Downtown Motown event rather than refund our money since we are not "official" anymore (thank you, Gayle). And Kerry and I appreciate Dori's invitation to remain on the Council. In our hearts, we are still part of the RHS; and to us, that's all that matters. The Cheeky Red Foxes will continue to carry on the mission of the RHS (to have fun); and we will do so with verve and flair, but without Hatquarter's support.
